An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and passionate band 5 Nurses to join our Neuro Regional Transfer Unit (NRTU) team within the Wessex Neurological Centre at UHS.
NRTU is a 10 bedded unit which caters for neurosurgical and neurology emergency admissions from across the Wessex region. Common conditions we see are brain bleeds, tumours, head injuries, seizures, Myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barre syndrome amongst many others. We also will take emergency spinal admissions. One of our beds is also a specialist Video-telemetry (VT) Suite whereby epilepsy patients are monitored for an extended period of time, often reducing medication to promote seizures. This is for either diagnostic measures or to assess whether they would be a candidate for surgery.
NRTU is a dynamic and fast paced area of work where you would develop and utilise acute nursing skills, all the while being supported by a multidisciplinary team. This includes trained Neuro nurses and therapy staff and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. A role on this ward would suit nurses anywhere on their career pathway; from a newly qualified nurse looking to gain acute experience, to a more experienced nurse looking to develop skills for career progression into leadership or Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles.
