There’s a whole army of professionals who work in an array of central and support functions – to keep everything running smoothly. We’ve plumbers, and porters, electricians and gardeners. Finance

As a high performing dynamic team, our Finance team cover the strategic, operational, and commercial sides of finance. That’s everything from day-to-day operational finance activities, such as accounts, treasury, and payroll, to a proactive strategic team focussed on our budgeting and spending controls.

We’re split into 7 divisions which cover Medical, Non-medical, International, R&D, Commercial functions and the Trusts Subsidiaries. Each division has their own Management Accountant and Finance Business Partner. We also have our own in-house auditing team who make sure and report on the fact that as a Trust we are compliant in everything we do. HR

Our award winning HR department is made up of 9 teams that support everybody here at the Trust. We work with every single member of staff, including doctors and managers and we help to make sure that all our colleagues feel able to lead the way in their chosen field.

Digital

We’re widely recognised as an IT and digital healthcare leader within the NHS. Our Informatics team at UHS Digital has overseen the development of a wide range of pioneering projects, focussed on improving the delivery and efficiency of healthcare services, and patient outcomes.

One of 16 centres of excellence, we’re known as Global Digital Exemplars, and have been selected by the Department of Health and Social Care to develop and share our digital innovations. Pharmacy

“I came to UHS to develop my skills, I stayed because I’ve developed as a person”

Registered by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), our Pharmacy team provides safer medicines for patients. This involves ensuring prescriptions are correctly prescribed, medicines are supplied in an accurate and timely way and appropriate advice is given to healthcare teams, patients and carers.

Our Clinical Pharmacists work with Consultants during ward rounds and make autonomous prescribing decisions tailored to patient needs.  From supporting patient flow through discharge medications to leading and managing project drugs budget expenditure, our Clinical Pharmacists have rich and diverse responsibilities that go beyond high street pharmacy or outpatient pharmacy environments.  Our teams contribute to evidence-based research and development and business cases for new medicines.

Pharmacist

you’ll need to have trained to Master degree level at university, followed by a year of work-based practice and have completed a GPhC registration assessment. Many pharmacists also complete additional qualifications to be prescribers and the new MPharm course incorporates prescribing in the practice year. Career pathways in UHS are very diverse following registration and a year or so rotational training. Pharmacists start at Band 6 and most are between Band 6 and Band 8C.

Pharmacy Technician

you’ll need to complete a 2 year apprenticeship and apply for GPhC registration. UHS uses the Certificate in Higher Education L4 apprenticeship with the UEA. Pharmacy Technicians start at Band 4 and most are between Band 4 and 8A.  There are a range of career pathways in UHS.

Pharmacy support worker

you’ll need to complete a GPhC approved L2 qualification and work operationally supplying medicines in dispensary, aseptic services, in the pharmacy stores and some are ward-based supporting the Pharmacy Technicians.

Estates

At UHS, our Estates Team is the backbone of our exceptional facilities, ensuring everything runs seamlessly to support our healthcare services. As a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), UHS estates Ltd is responsible for the design and construction of new buildings, and the ongoing provision of services, including estates maintenance, soft facilities management and the management of equipment, consumables and materials. The size, scale and scope of operation means EUL have a range of career opportunities available.

Our Communications team is a dynamic and versatile department, managing Trust-wide campaigns, developing the corporate identity, and ensuring branding aligns with NHS and UHS guidelines. Our media and news division handles news gathering, media handling, and promotes the Trust’s achievements through various platforms. With a strong focus on patient information, they offer resources in clear and concise language that’s easy for everyone to understand. Their eLearning and Videography service empowers staff with interactive courses and innovative learning experiences, while actively keeping the hospital community informed and engaged on our social media channels.

Wessex Procurement Ltd (WPL) provide end-to-end procurement and supply chain services for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
