This is an exciting opportunity to join the existing Paediatric Outreach Service here at UHS.
The role encompasses the following:
To provide effective nursing leadership and clinical expertise that supports, promotes and develops efficient service delivery to sick or deteriorating children & the practitioners that manage them & their families. This will be achieved by an ability to work autonomously whilst interacting with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), keeping the needs of the child and family at the centre of safe care planning and delivery.
To contribute to the education and training programmes of the MDT to ensure the service is delivered safely and to a high standard.
Respond to all paediatric 2222 calls – including general / cardiac & Trauma paediatrics.  
Respond to all patient deterioration - PEWS triggers in any paediatric area including those outside the Children’s Hospital e.g. CED / recovery / CRF / Eye Department….
Attend medical handovers & review any patients highlighted requiring additional clinical decision support.
Attend Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to review patients as required and be informed of any discharges. This can be facilitated via the morning Safety Huddles. 
Liaise directly with operational bed managers regarding patient allocation to ensure patient safety. This includes response to escalations of children requiring support within the CED department & the potential for HDU requirement.
OOH’s provide additional leadership/operational support to maintain patient safety at senior level.
Attend daily Safety Huddles (PICU 10.00hrs / Core midday).
Review all patients stepping down from PICU & communicate clinical management plans with the appropriate clinical medical teams.
Review patients stepping down from PHDU to other ward areas as required.
Provide bedside clinical decision support to all clinical professionals as required.
Further empower clinical teams in the ongoing management of their patients enhancing clinical knowledge & competence. Including assistance for patients with difficulties in IV access & use of POCUS.
Where required prescribes medications, therapeutic interventions and intravenous fluids within their sphere of competence whilst complying with the Non-Medical Prescribing policy the requirements of their professional regulatory body and the Royal Pharmaceutical Frameworks for prescribers.
Actively contribute to communications for children with complex needs especially where more than 1 clinical team is involved.
Liaise with other nurse specialist teams where appropriate.
Active involvement in Adverse Event Reporting (AER) in context of raising concern and addressing any learning required. This will be feedback via QuEST.
Attend & participate in weekly Child Deterioration and Death (CDaD) reviews.
Participate in the Call 4 Concern initiative for paediatrics within UHS.
Participate in monthly data collection of the Avoidable Harm Dashboard Child Health.
In cases of increased patient acuity assist with the transfer of sick children for radiological imaging to provide support to nursing teams.
Collation of Paediatric Outreach daily Activity data – encompassing the 4 pillars of ACP practice
