The Wessex Regional Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Service is looking to appoint an enthusiastic senior sister/charge nurse to take a key role in the running and further development of the service. Based at the Southampton Cancer Centre, Southampton General Hospital (SGH). This secondment post is available immediately for 12 months to help run the C6 Teenage and Young Adult inpatient and outpatient areas.

A dedicated age appropriate facility for TYA patients (aged 16-24 years), funded by a charitable grant from the Teenage Cancer Trust, was opened at SGH in September 2013. It comprises 6 inpatient beds and 4 day care areas. The Unit serves young adult patients in the Central South Coast Region, Dorset and the Channel Islands. The post holder will be a pivotal member of the TYA multidisciplinary team which provides medical, social, psychological and emotional support to this patient population. The team comprises site specific oncology/haematology/palliative care consultants who have a specialist interest in the care of the TYA patient group, TYA nurse specialists and a lead nurse along with TYA specialist social workers and youth support workers funded by the YLvsC and the Teenage Cancer Trust. In addition, the team comprises specialist physiotherapists/occupational therapies/dietetics and psychologist. TYA nurse specialists are also based within the region providing geographical outreach.
